Spring is a brand new season and the perfect time to get a clean slate. So I’ve got some news…

Have you ever spent a few months in a slump and just couldn’t figure out what to do to get out of it? That was me last summer. My husband was in the same boat. Justin and I just couldn’t shake the sadness from losing our dogs. We functioned just fine on a day to day basis. We went to work, we hung out with friends, we kept our house clean and tidy. Something was just off.

When it came time to plan our 10 year wedding anniversary trip, we got excited. Patagonia, New Zealand and Mount Kilimanjaro were all bucket list trips that we thought would be perfect for a big milestone. As we started to lay out itineraries and costs, our excitement disappeared. How could you possibly visit any of those places in two weeks without feeling rushed or having to make hard choices about things to skip?

The wheels started turning. We booked a one week camping trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern MN to get away for a week from technology and other people and really think this all through. Could we take a year off from normal routines and see some places that we’ve always wanted to see?

6 months later and here’s where we are:

2 one-way tickets booked to Christchurch, New Zealand leaving on April 3

6 weeks of lodging booked and paid for on the North & South Island as well as a flight to Bali booked and paid for at the end of May

A rental house that we are moving out of on March 31

My 15 year career with a great company is officially ending on March 29

At least 10 full bags of things already dropped off at Goodwill with more to follow

Furniture that has been claimed by friends & family (for a little cash) being picked up over the next week to clear out the house

A budget that has been studied, scrubbed and all unnecessary costs deleted

A brand new website that we spent the winter working on. You can find it here and if Bloglovin’ is your jam, we’d love you to follow using this link as well.

Arms that have been poked with all kinds of shots

A mind racing a hundred miles a minute making sure that we haven’t forgotten anything and a serious need to start yoga and meditation immediately

I’m just ready to slow down, see new things, meet people, take deep breaths, experience life, write more, read more and help give some time and energy back to the planet and other people.

What’s Next?

We would love it if you would check out the website and follow along. Ask questions, give us recommendations, etc.

I’ll keep writing here because it’s where I share books, things I love, funny stories and probably some travel outtakes. But most of the travel photos and stories will be on the new website. I have a couple drafts about how we made this all actually happen, but I wanted to share the news first.
