The first snow every year has my mind running through a series of emotions. So, when I woke up yesterday and this was the scene at the cabin, the cycle started.

Shit. Is that actual snow?

Did somebody know this was going to happen and no one warned me?

Did I not check the weather 2 days ago for the week ahead?

THIS CANNOT BE MY LIFE.

It is kind of pretty right now. Where’s my iPhone?

Nope. It’s too soon. It’s not even Halloween.

This will melt by the afternoon, right?

Checks three different weather apps for the week ahead forecast.

Whew. No more snowflakes in the near future.

But that’s what I saw when I checked last week.

I guess it is a little pretty covering the trees.

Have we booked our ski trip this year?

It’s like we are on the inside of a snow globe.

All plans are cancelled today so I can sit inside and order pizza.

It’s way too early for this. Why did I move back to Minnesota?

I’m glad we are heading to the beach in January, I might need to go sooner.

My instagram feed was all fall photos yesterday. I didn’t even get a chance to over post pumpkins and leaves and apples.

(Channels Lorelei Gilmore) Better go enjoy the first snow. We only get one a year and it’s so pretty.

All of that went through my brain yesterday morning in about 30 seconds. We did indeed cancel the plans we had to hike at a new state park because we didn’t have the right clothes for a muddy, snowy hike, but we still enjoyed the beauty of it while wrapped in fuzzy blankets, eating butternut squash pizza and brussel sprouts and finishing Sharp Objects on Netflix. There was a nap in there somewhere too.

The good news is that the snow is melted today and not all the leaves have fallen, so I’m going to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible this week. If my Instagram feed is overloaded with pumpkins, leaves and apples, I’ll be happy.

In the meantime, I dug out some of my favorite winter moments from last year. Our ski trip to Montana, New Year’s in Colorado, the first snow in Minneapolis, NYC in December and the best sunrises that the year has to offer. I’ll just keep telling myself that it’s not so bad.

Stay warm friends.
