In the last few years, we have been changing the way we watch our favorite Christmas movies. We turn them into full date nights at home. Last year, I shared a few ideas in different posts, but I figured I could share our full list so far and see if anyone has any other ideas.

Home Alone & Home Alone 2 – This is the one that started our new routine. There is nothing better than having some hot cheese pizza available when you see the Little Nero’s delivery kid show up in the movie.

Elf – There are a few options for this movie, but all of them involve Maple Syrup. This year, we are planning on Spaghetti (without the syrup topping) and then making our favorite popcorn that is Maple Syrup and Sea Salt – you can find it here.

Christmas Vacation – You can make yourself an entire meal similar to the one that they eat, but we prefer a good eggnog or cocktail that resembles eggnog. Extra points if you put it in a moose mug like these.

Moose Mug Cocktail
If you don’t like eggnog, but you want a good cocktail that you can sip on while watching Christmas Vacation – then definitely try this one.
Ingredients
  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 oz Kahlua
  • 1 oz Half & Half
  • as much as you want Caramel Sauce
Instructions
Shake these all together with ice and top with some whipped cream and possibly some extra caramel sauce.

A Christmas Story – This movie is best enjoyed with Chinese takeout. If you have a leg lamp or an awesome onesie, you get at least 10 extra points.

Love Actually – This movie is best enjoyed with girlfriends, champagne and little snacks like scones, cakes and the little sandwiches you get at tea. There’s nothing better than a pajama party with fancy snacks. The movie is just background noise at this point.

The Santa Clause (and sequels) – This is still one of our favorites. Each year, we try out a new Hot Chocolate recipe and make cookies. It’s all about Santa. This year we are going to try some peppermint hot chocolate make with almond milk and white chocolate chips and for the cookies, we are trying out a cream cheese chocolate chip recipe. I’ll share both if they turn out good.

Those are the movies we’ve found a food/drink to pair with. Our other favorites are Deck the Halls, Christmas with the Kranks, Fred Clause, Four Christmases and White Christmas (which we always watch on Thanksgiving.) Let me know if you have any ideas on ways we could make these festive movies even more festive. Date nights at home are just as awesome as fancy dinners thanks to pajamas and blankets and the dogs.
