It’s hard to imagine we’ve been back a week already.  It seems like just yesterday I was drinking from this fountain well to reverse time.  Here I am on this hectic Monday morning that so many of my friends have off work and I’m wishing I was not wearing heels and a semi-itchy sweater with a busy day full of meetings.  So, the Fountain of Youth…

It really is a well.  The lady told us that it had been a fountain long ago, but they had to dig out the well in the last 50 years or so.  There is a whole park dedicated to the Fountain of Youth and the history of St. Augustine.  After our awesome sunrise and equally awesome breakfast, we checked out of our hotel and headed to the park.  It was a little rainy, but nothing could stop us from paying $12.00 to drink this magical water from a dixie cup.  I’m a sucker for anything that’s labeled “All You Can Drink.”  The only problem with the rain was that no one else was heading to the park.  We were receiving way too much attention from the friendly staff that are dressed up and ready to reenact certain historical events.  We didn’t care about that – we just wanted to drink some youthful water.  So, we listened to the history of the fountain while taking large gulps.  After that, we figured we’d look around the park since we paid an obscene amount and five minutes didn’t seem appropriate.  The park itself was beautiful and right on the water.  The flowers and trees were gorgeous.

They had a large number of Peafowl (yes, we learned that only the males are Peacocks) running around through the park as well, which was extremely entertaining for Justin and I.  We found a small dispenser of peanuts and a sign that said it was for feeding the animals only.  We had no idea that this park was also some sort of petting zoo for these beautifully colorful birds, so we dumped my purse and found all the quarters we could and went on an adventure.  At first, we threw the peanuts towards the birds and watched them munch away.  We got really brave after a few handfuls and decided we would see if these birds would eat from our hands… and we video taped it:
It was extremely exciting.  Shortly after that, we headed towards Orlando to begin our actual Disney adventure.  I would recommend St. Augustine and the Fountain of Youth to anyone that is traveling the coastline.  It isn’t too far from Daytona Beach and has some awesome art galleries and restaurants.  The city just reeks of history as well as some really random touristy things – like Ripley’s Believe It or Not at Ripley’s actual home.  I don’t know that we’ll be rushing back any time soon, but maybe that’s because we bought at least ten of the vials of water for 75 cents a piece.  Let me know if you feel like you need some – I’ll only double the price 🙂
