I love doing these posts right when I get back from vacation. It usually takes me a while (Europe took months) to organize all the photos and share them on the blog, but this gets some of my memories locked in. Florida Keys was an amazing trip.

We just got back from southern Florida and it was just the break we needed from work and Minnesota in the winter. The best part of the trip was celebrating one of our favorite couples in West Palm Beach (if you don’t read Tami’s blog, do it) but before their wedding, we spent a few days exploring the Keys and it was wonderful. Here is a little glimpse into our vacation.

I tasted…

Key lime pie from multiple places. A conch sandwich. Lots of fresh fish which we only eat when on vacation right on the ocean. All the rum cocktails. I miss rum cocktails.

I heard…

Birds right outside the window. Waves. Lots of other languages. The magical sounds of windows being rolled down. The roosters in Key West that run the streets.

I smelled…

Salt water. Key lime everything – it was the flavor of soaps, pie and coladas. Amazing food. The smell of cigarettes in a bar (so weird that you can still do that.) Sun bum sun screen.

I saw…

Sunrises and sunsets. The most beautiful turquoise water. Lots of wildlife. Brightly colored tiny houses and RV’s. A beautiful wedding at a beautiful sailing club. Waterfront mansions. And all the palm trees.

I felt…

Sand in between my toes. Salty water. Warm ocean breeze. Sore shoulders after kayaking for a few hours into the wind. Overwhelmed by Miami traffic. Happiness that only comes with vacation and fresh air.

I will share more photos from the Florida Keys soon, but I’ve got to get back to work emails and shoveling out of the mountain of snow our house is buried under. And also, figuring out to get myself underneath palm trees again soon. If you want to read more of these, check them out here.
