Blogust is Coming

Yep, I'm calling it Blogust and I think it's super clever. I'm not doing a full month of blogging topics or anything that exciting. Instead, I'm going to insert some love & work here. Get it? Insert it here? That kind of sounds dirty. I'm also on my 3rd cup of coffee today and work is crazy.

ANYWAYS, I wanted to just give everyone an update that things might seem a little weird if you visit this weekend. I'm going to be updating my different pages, fixing some pictures, changing up the design and working on consistency. I have a link up mid month that I want everyone to participate in (more to come on that soon.) I also want to help promote some other bloggers and grow this little world in some new ways.

Thanks for being awesome. Thanks for reading the things I put out there. Happy freaking Friday!

Tell me - what are you favorite things to read about on blogs? I'm soooo curious.

It's Only Thursday

It's Thursday and I thought it was Friday (but so did Erin so I'm not alone.) Here is a dose of my random thoughts.

I have serious guilt because I wasted an entire pineapple. I let it go bad on my counter without taking one bite. I love pineapple. What a tragedy.

I'm pumped to have a family weekend in Minnesota. I am throwing my soon-to-be sister-in-law a wedding shower and get to see lots of family. Plus, I have a special breakfast date with three of our nieces on Sunday. I can't wait.

I'm a little sad that I don't get any friend time this weekend, but we will be back in August for a longer time and will be able to hang with our people then.

We went on a bit of a concert ticket buying spree. We haven't seen any live shows in a while and there are some amazing shows in the city the next few months for really good prices. Plus, I'm checking a band off my music bucket list (which I'm going to share next month.)

I am so excited for the new Vacation movie. Leslie Mann is my favorite and I love so much that she is going to be Audrey. Chevy Chase is an important figure in this household.

We bought a bright orange piece of furniture and I'm obsessed with it. I love it so much that I'm going to do another post showing you snapshots of home like this one from a few months ago.

I'm working on a little blog redesign that I will have ready for the first day of August. I love figuring out how to do new things by myself, but I forget how much time this can take.

There will be a mimosa bar this weekend that I am setting up. It's been a long time dream of mine and I'm so excited that it will finally come true. I better end with that.

Cheers friends!

A Weekend of Dates

The title might seem a little weird, but don't worry - every date was with my husband. It's Sunday afternoon and my husband is currently fishing in the Atlantic Ocean and I just finished a cleaning/dancing marathon in the apartment.

I started thinking about the last 48 hours and how grateful I was. I went on a few dates with my husband this weekend and each one was different and completely perfect. Also, I should mention that we didn't really view them as dates before or during - that is just something I'm titling them now.

Friday night = Listening to records, FaceTime with some friends/family and enjoying root beer floats (made with Not Your Father's Root Beer)

Rainy Saturday morning = Cinnamon rolls, coffee and Jurassic Park (the original)

Saturday afternoon = Wandering through the little shops in downtown Nyack and a good Mexican brunch complete with breakfast margaritas

Saturday evening = Movie night on the couch with the pups after a good workout.

Then we have today - a day all by myself to clean, read and watch Grace & Frankie and hide from the sweltering heat.

This was a wonderful weekend with no milestone moments or bucket list items. Just a weekend with the two of us doing normal things.

When you have a crazy schedule, you begin to appreciate these weekends. I wish someone would've told me to appreciate them more before things got crazy - I might not have listened, but you never know.  So that's my lesson for you. Make every outing a date and appreciate the quiet "normal" times.  You won't get as many as you might think.

Montana Moments

I am a picture person. I love looking at them and attempting to take them. Lately, I've been feeling the same way about videos. Not long videos, I get too bored. I like taking short little clips of life as it's happening. I put together the clips from Montana last night and figured I'd share with you all.

Also, if you liked this one - here is our Springtime moments and Scenes from our Winter. You can also just subscribe to the Insert Classy Here YouTube channel so you don't miss any in the future.

I'll have some pictures to share next week from our trip. And to the Montucky Manor family, I might watch this 10 times just to see your faces again because I miss you all so much.

So tell me, are you a video person? Have you ever been to Montana?

Return to the Real World

Today I am fighting an uphill battle of work emails, laundry and all the things that come with being back from vacation. I wish my uphill path looked like this one, but instead, it's two bright computer screens.

Montana is a beautiful place. My lungs are full of fresh air, my face hurts from laughing so hard and I own a red, white & blue hat that matches with some of my favorite people. I can't wait to share some of the beautiful places that we went.

Before you leave, check out these things:

Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial and celebrate Prime Day with the rest of the United States.

Read bloggers favorite spots in Iceland on Unlocking Kiki. I shared one of my favorite waterfalls that I haven't even posted on this blog yet.

Pick out your favorite National Park in this list of the 25 Most Scenic National Parks on the Local Adventurer website.

Happy Hump Day.

Vik, Iceland

The little town of Vik on the south coast of Iceland was a great place to stop on our road trip for the night. We found a little restaurant called Sudur Vik located at a guest house. We enjoyed beers and pizza and celebrated the most amazing first day on the Ring Road. We spent the night at the Icelandair Hotel. I would highly recommend both places. In the morning, we got up and walked on the beautiful black sand beaches and took in the scene of this tiny little town.

I'll let the pictures do the talking.

I love looking through the Iceland pictures. It makes me want to get back already. Instead, I've got to enjoy where I'm at right now. I hope you're somewhere beautiful.

Do You Enjoy JOMO?

By now, I think we've all heard about FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out. Today, I'd like to talk about it's lesser known relative JOMO.

Joy Of Missing Out

Sounds a little crazy, right? JOMO has been a more recent thing for me. As I have gotten older, I believe I have become more introverted. If you know me at all, you'd probably disagree immediately, but what I've discovered is that I need quiet alone time to recharge. That is a newer thing for me. I used to be able to be out and social 7 days a week and it energized me. Now, I need a day or two to recover after busy weekends with friends. I need a book, a candle and a quiet evening at the apartment to reenergize.

This weekend was the perfect example. Holidays in the last two years have been hard being away from Minnesota. You see pictures of your friends and family at your favorite places participating in your old traditions. This 4th of July was the first time I didn't feel that way.

We had fun days with friends on Friday and Saturday enjoying the outdoors, cold drinks and great food. There were temporary tattoos of all things red, white & blue, fireworks and the greatest american flag sunglasses. It was fantastic.

Then there was Sunday. Even though the weather was perfection, we stayed home with the dogs, ordered in food and relaxed ALL DAY LONG - and there wasn't even a hangover to blame. We watched a How I Met Your Mother marathon on Netflix and did a few chores. We turned down dinner with our favorite Edgewater residents, because sometimes you need quiet nights to recharge.

Life has been nutso lately and days like this are rare. There was definite joy in being at home instead of out and about. So, what about you? Do you ever embrace JOMO? Turn down an invitation to give yourself a little quiet time? I highly suggest it, at least every once in a while.

Currently...

July is here. Summer is FLYING by. I think I say that every month except January. That month always seems slow. Anyone else have one slow month every year? Embrace it.

Anyways, here is a monthly dose of what I'm up to currently.

Reading The Rosie Effect. I started just last night and I'm 100 pages deep. I loved the first one and I love this one just as much so far. My to-read list on Goodreads has grown so much lately from all these book posts and I love it. Are we friends yet on Goodreads?

Drinking Soul Ride IPA. It's a local beer from Indianapolis and since that's where I am this week, I figured I would dive into the local craft beer scene. It's fantastic if you were wondering.

Counting down to the wedding shower I'm hosting for my soon-to-be sister in law. She is one of my favorite people and I'm so happy she will be my sister in less than 2 months. Growing up without sisters means you don't really know what you're missing. If you're lucky like me, you end up with 3 sister in laws that you love and adore and can't get enough of.

Thankful for summer nights. Whether it's a quiet night with a book and glass of wine or a night with friends on a patio eating Thai food and laughing loudly, these nights are magical and I can't get enough.

Happy that there was finally something on the news to smile about. We missed pride weekend in NYC because of our work travels this week and rural Ohio didn't have much to offer in the parade department, but there was champagne to celebrate a big milestone. Lots more work to do, but you have to recognize each victory. Cheers to love!

Glued to all the coverage of the escaped prisoners from Northern NY. I know the hunt is over, but I feel like there is so much more to this story. In college, I took lots of criminology classes and learned a little about our prison system. It's very interesting to hear different perspectives.

Listening to the Decemberists a lot lately. Also, my new favorite song is this one:

Excited for a week in Montana with some of our favorite people. We have only been in the middle of winter, so a summer trip will be a whole new adventure. We are so lucky and grateful that our friend, Brian, has a family home outside of Big Sky. I can barely contain my excitement. I'm smiling ear to ear just writing about it.

I don't think there will be snow on the ground this time. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK.

Dreaming for a little extra time to update my blog pages and put together a little midsummer giveaway for all y'all. If you're interested in participating, email me steph@insertclassyhere.com before 7/15.  Hope you're staying cool and calm and happy.
