You Read This… That's so Cool

It is the final day of the year and it's a great day for a little reflection.  This blog has been a great place for me in the last year and I'm excited to see what the future holds.  Since we've already done a recap of big life events this year, I figured I would break down a few things about Insert Classy Here today.  As far as new resolutions, I'm putting that off for right now because I can.

To start it off, here are the most popular posts of 2013:

10.  I saw NKOTB finally and then summarized my experience by sharing with you the 10 things I learned from the Package Tour

9.  A Day in my Life which I fully intend on repeating now that I live in a totally different place with a different routine.

8.  A Bit About Blogging because it's weird and we all have to be OK that it's weird.

7.  I wrote about our relationship and how it all started with baseball in this post, First comes Baseball, then comes Marriage.

6.  Top Gun + Pedal Pub + 30th Birthday = Danger Zone and it also is the post about the birthday party I threw for my husband.  I was quite proud of myself that I pulled off a surprise.

5.  2013 Recap which I don't think needs any explanation.

4.  Chick Flicks aren't just for Chicks which was obviously written by my husband.

3.  We have BIG news!  Duh, we moved to the east coast.

2.  I always love talking about myself and answering questions in the post, Hi, My Name is Steph.

1.  I am a Pescatarian and I think it's important to share my reasons.

Recent Search Terms:

Magical Place in Iowa - I can only assume they are searching for info on Okoboji which truly is a magical place.  Now, if there is a place that raises unicorns and centaurs in Iowa, I haven't found it yet.

Big Sky Montana Naked - No, I was not naked in Big Sky, but I did have a run in with some naked skiers and it was a moment I will not forget, did you miss it? Read about it here.

Stay calm and love a Schnauzer - Yes, because I do every day.

Classy girls don't have Facebook - Hmmm, maybe someone is telling me that I need to get off of Facebook.  I've toyed with the idea, but instead just starting removing people that posted too much stuff that annoyed me.

Classy raps for teenage girls - I listened to rap music when I was a teenager, but I don't think it can be referred to as classy, so I'm probably not the best place to find it.

Drinking in Epcot - Yes, yes I was.  Best trip ever.

Fabulous Sponsors:  These bloggers are awesome and I have loved getting to know them better this year.  If you have not "met" these ladies, do yourself a favor and go wish them a Happy New Year.

Love, fun and football    Confessions of a Gila MonsterLife After Athens

Venus Trapped in Mars

Life According to Steph     It's all in the details.

Things I still haven't figured out in blog world:
  1. Getting myself free clothes (and free other things).
  2. Winning a giveaway.
  3. Taking a normal picture… like a classy picture… without my thumbs up.
  4. How to complete a design for myself without giving up, but I do love Kaitlyn and Erin.
  5. How to put myself out there a little more and meet some of you people.
  6. How to take pictures of my food that look appetizing.
Looking forward:

But, I did go and get myself my own domain.  Yep, I've grown up and dumped the blogspot (which keeps autocorrecting to bloodspot and that's creepy).  Isn't it pretty?

Maybe 2014 will be the year that I get super classy, start taking more fashion photos (nope) and put myself out there a little more.  I also fully intend on crossing off WAY more things on my 30 before 30 list.

But two things are for sure:  Number one, I feel really cool with my own domain.  And I saved the best for last.  In January, no one read my blog and today YOU read it.  That is the coolest thing.  So Happy New Year.

What are you most proud of in 2013?

Christmas in New York City

Moving to the East Coast right before the holidays wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done.  We were going to be away from home for the holidays and we didn't know what to expect.  Now that we are almost to the New Year, I can safely say that this place is magical and I'm so in love with the holiday season in the big city.

My parents were here for the weekend before Christmas and we had an absolute blast.  The weather was crazy warm which allowed us to play outside all weekend.  We took one of those obnoxious double decker tour buses throughout Manhattan.  The pictures we took in the last month won't really give you the whole picture, at least it will provide you with a little motivation to figure out how to get yourself to New York City for the holidays at least once in your life.

Here are some of my favorite Christmas places:

Hi Mom, Hi Dad!

Did I miss anything?  I don't know if we could have fit anything else in, but there's always next year.  Maybe next year there will be snow on the ground, but I'm definitely not complaining about the 70 degree weather.

My Name was on the "Nice" List

xmas gifts

xmas gifts by steph-gregerson featuring vintage purses

Remember when I showed you what was on my Christmas list in this post?  I would say that I did pretty good.  I have to get a different size of Tom's so I don't have them on my feet yet, but I love them anyways.

Justin got the best present of all… from himself :)

Santa left full stockings for everyone in our little family and we woke up on Christmas morning and my parents had gone home.  It was quiet in our house and we spent the morning just enjoying some time with the dogs and each other and being grateful for the gifts that we have.

We headed out for a few hours just to catch a movie.  We saw Anchorman 2 and thought it was funny (although the first one is better, but the cameos are amazing in this one.)  Once we got back home, Superman Christmas Jammie time began.  Some of you may have seen a picture of this, but I got the best pi's for Christmas this year and my husband got matching socks.  Totally normal to have a full photo shoot and dance party in Superman jammies, right?

Hope your week was filled with love, gratitude and peace.  If you need me, I'll be staring at my new Kate Spade bag while wearing my Superman jammies.  CLASSY.

Merry Christmas (Insta-Gratitude Week 51)

Merry Christmas!  I am spending the day with Justin and the two pups watching movies, catching up with relatives via FaceTime and eating a ridiculous amount of candy.

Here is a brief look at the things I was grateful for this week of Christmas:

Our memories of a good friend live on 5 years after his last day fighting cancer.  He continues to be an inspiration to us and we miss him every day, but we are so grateful that he was a part of our lives.

On a much lighter note, the weather… so amazing.  It hit 70 degrees on Saturday & Sunday.  This last week has been beyond crazy and beautiful out.

After a few hours worth of delays (thanks to the woman that thought it was OK to bring a propane tank to the airport), my parents arrived with cookies and treats from home.

Saturday was spent roaming the city in the sunshine.  We wandered through the city stopping for cocktails every once in a while.  The fancy pink drink my mom had was the Lady Liberty… when in NYC.

Again, I'm grateful for all the beautiful decorations throughout New York City.  Sunday, we spent another beautiful day exploring uptown and then heading to Brooklyn for a little pub tour of Williamsburg.

Monday night, we visited our old neighbors in downtown and enjoyed their beautiful view of the city while sipping champagne and reminiscing.  Lots of laughs were had while sitting next to this beautiful blue tree.  I'm so grateful that it worked out to spend the evening with them.

And last but not least, a Christmas eve surprise for my parents when we delivered them back to JFK last night.  We stopped at this house and enjoyed the beautiful Christmas lights.  More on this house later (because one picture does not even help you understand what we were looking at.)

Hope you are all enjoying family, friends, fun, champagne, eggnog, chocolate, fires, movies or whatever else your Christmas traditions normally include.  Also, if you use the code hohoho before the end of the week, you will receive 50% off the already cheap sponsor options.  MUCH LOVE TO ALL.

Roots and Wings

Have you ever heard the song by Steven Kellogg & the Sixers called Roots & Wings?  I had not either until we were given an epic playlist for our road trip out east.  We had spent out final morning in Minnesota eating my dad's pancakes with our parents, siblings, nieces, nephew and my grandmother.  It had been a little over 5 years since our families were all in one place at the same time (for our wedding) and it was very special.

I had honestly been dreading that moment because it was going to be a "goodbye for now" and I was worried I would just cry the whole time and not take it in.  But it wasn't like that at all.  It was a calm and peaceful few hours and I was able to sit there and soak it all in.

When we actually hugged my parents, I was wondering if they were feeling sad or holding back tears.  I guess I will never know, because all they showed me was love and support and excitement for our new adventures.  (It helps that they already had their first trip planned.)  So as we drove through Wisconsin waiting for some emotional wave to hit us, this song played for the first time.  I was drifting in and out of nap land when Justin told me to listen to the lyrics.  You can find the lyrics here.

I can't explain in full why this song meant so much to me, but it made me so extremely grateful for my parents in that moment.  They had given me the courage to do something crazy like this and they were genuinely excited for us.  What an amazing gift - the idea of getting roots and wings.

I say all this as I prepare for my parents to fly in this evening.  I am beyond excited to spend a few days enjoying NYC Christmas.  For those of you that have moved away, I'm curious, does this song make you grateful for your upbringing or am I the only sap?

Also, in honor of my dad's favorite post on this blog ever - My Dad calls it "rap crap" - here is a little song to get you ready for this weekend.

The Quiet Little Things (Insta-Gratitude Week 50)

Twas the week before Christmas and that's all I got… at least for any sort of poems.  I'm a day late on my gratitude post this week, but I couldn't miss out on the 2013 recap yesterday.  So many quiet moments in the last week while we are preparing for our very first visitors.  Well, except for the picture from the first night.

We had work people in town last week and one of them had never been to New York City.  We went into the city and had dinner and then we walked to see the tree.  I had seen it during the day, but I had never seen it all lit up in all it's glory.  I felt like a kid again.  It was magical and I'll be back with my parents in a few days.

We got cheesecake again and we took it home to enjoy it the next evening.  The longer I'm here, the most I like dessert.  Good thing I walk an average of 3 miles each time I have dessert.

I love when these two cuddle together.  They completely take over this couch each day during work hours and it's entertaining to see how many different sleeping/napping positions they use throughout the day.

A nice little Saturday evening during an ice/snow storm.  A little bit of Lush, some Lasagna and The Santa Clause.  It was a wonderfully quiet day.

We got this picture from Holly on Sunday and it made me miss these girls soooo much.  It will be so weird celebrating Christmas with no nieces throwing wrapping paper at my face.  We went and got French Toast and then FaceTimed with some friends back home and I was feeling less sad.

Things hung on the bathroom wall made me happy on Monday.  This apartment is almost totally moved into.  By this weekend, we will be 100% and that feels GOOD.

And last, but definitely not least, we received this package of Christmas goodies and it made my day.  Nothing says Christmas like a Nutcracker, Caramellos (KING SIZE) and Vodka.  We seriously have the best friends in the world and we miss them so much.

Less than 48 hours until my parents are here.  Yippee!!!  We are going to see the tree again, head to Bryant Park for the Christmas Market, hopefully see a show and eat so much good food.  As weird as it feels to be away from Minnesota for the holidays, I am so excited that my mom & dad are coming to hang out here.

What are you grateful for this week?  Big holiday plans?
