Check another off the 30 Before 30 list (check that out here). I spent the morning on the 4th of July kayaking with my husband. We had so much fun.
The rental place advised us to get there early because the line gets long, so we got up and headed to Minneapolis around 9. We only waited about 10 minutes in line and got life jackets & our vessels.
Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis is part of a chain of lakes and some of them are much smaller which makes it easier to maneuver in a kayak. I can’t believe I had never done this before. We cruised through the channels and got ourselves to Cedar Lake.

It was a little bit of a learning moment for me because I was holding the paddle wrong and giving myself instant blisters. Once we got that sorted out, it was smooth sailing.
We hung out in the middle of the lake for a few minutes to rest and enjoy the moment before heading back. A full 90 minutes was spent on the water. The sun was starting to get hot and I was a hungry girl, so we called it quits and decided on lunch & mimosas.
I think one or two more times on a lake and I’ll be ready to try the river. They offer awesome kayak trips on the St. Croix River and they bus you back upstream when you’re done. I don’t know why I hadn’t tried this earlier in life, but I’m glad I included it on my list and it felt amazing to cross another item off.
You just wait, this will be me by the end of the summer.

Don’t forget tomorrow is gratitude/happy/awesome things day and I’m going to post the link up again. Come and link up and tell me what you were grateful for in the last week.
You are so cute in your hat and shades! Looks like so much fun
Ok, your first time to kayak and you took your camera/phone?!?! I would've worried the whole time about flipping over and dumping everything, ha! That's been on my bucketlist, too!! So fun!
And, I agree with Tami…you are too cute in your hat and shades! 🙂
That last picture…OMG!
adorable pics! the scenery was gorgeous.. congrats on checking something off the bucket list! looks like you had a ball 🙂 xo
Fabulous photos! It's been almost 10 years since I've been kayaking. I need to go again.
Fun times! We have canoed down the St Croix and then took the shuttle back up. I strongly recommend going in the fall. The trees are breathtaking!
You were very wise to get your own kayaks and not a double. John and I did a double kayak for the first time in the Dominican Republic and screamed at each other in the middle of the ocean and came back in after 15 minutes. This year we tried it again and although there was no screaming, it is very clear that we are NOT a double kayaking couple.
This may be mostly my fault as I rowed all 4 years in high school and think that everyone should know what they are doing and how to follow me. Oops.
Kayaking is on my bucket list. Good for you!!!!
I love your pictures – looks like a beautiful day.
And if you are jumping the rapids by the end of summer – please make sure it's on video.
You guys are so cute!! You look so pretty and I LOVE your hat!! 🙂 Were your arms sore after kayaking?! We kayaked in a 2-person one on our honeymoon and Jared accidentally hit me in the head with the paddle… ohhh, memories! 😉
oh love this! I just went kayaking last weekend!! sooo fun!
Seriously so adorable! These pictures look amazing too!! You've totally inspired me to jump on the kayak this weekend in our city 🙂
